Lost-wax casting is a process of metal casting in which a liquid metal is poured into a mold that has been made by means of a wax model. Once the form is made, the wax model is melted and depleted away. To produce your metal cast products, steel casting companies uses a variety of techniques in casting operations. Precision investment casting provides dimensional accuracy and fine presentable casting surface than traditional casting. Investment casting is also called lost wax casting. Investment casting is almost always the preferred option to make stainless steel casting parts. Customers sometimes need to balance the cost of casting vs. machining.
The process is completed in 5 steps:
Step 1: Mold Making: Make a mold to inject wax into.
Step 2: WAX Pattern Forming: Inject molten wax into a mold, and then assemble formed wax patterns on a wax tree.
Step 3: Wax Surface Coating: The wax needs to be strengthened by a covering it in a solid shell. This is done by dipping the wax tree in ceramic slurry.
Step 4: Metal the wax away: Melt out the wax from the ceramic shell to make cavity space for the final casting. Then pour molten metal in it.
Step 5: Finishing: Break shell and cut each part off the tree. The steel casting companies also perform CNC machining (Turning, Milling, and Tapping), welding and mechanical polishing.
To provide the best quality, performs chemical analysis, mechanical strength tests, charpy tests, Brinell hardness test, NDT X-Ray and pressure testing. Material certification from 3rd party labs is often provided to international customers and can follow these standards: ASTM, SAE, AISI, and BS. Tight tolerance can be controlled to 5 um level for most parts.
